Teofila Phyllis Szczesny

F, b. 15 May 1855, d. 10 February 1940
     Teofila Phyllis Szczesny was born on 15 May 1855 at Poland. She was the daughter of Marcin 'Michael' Szczesny and Dorothea Nowakowska. Teofila Phyllis Szczesny married Andrew Drapes on 5 November 1885 at Junction City, Portage Co, WI. Teofila Phyllis Szczesny died on 10 February 1940 at Stevens Point, Portage Co, WI, at age 84.

Mrs. Phyllis Drapes
Mrs. Phyllis Drapes, age 83, a resident of Portage county for more than 35 years, died Saturday afternoon at 4:45 o’clock at the home of her son and daughter-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Edward Drapes, 715 Union street. She had been ailing since June and was confined to bed since Christmas. Her condition became serious a week ago.
Mrs. Drapes, whose maiden name was Phyllis Szczesny, was born in May, 1856, in Poland. She came to this country during her girlhood and for a time resided at Baltimore, Maryland. She then came to Wisconsin and lived in the town of Carson until her marriage. Her marriage to Andrew Drapes took place in 1884. The couple then came to Stevens Point and Mrs. Drapes had lived here since. Her husband died on November 5, 1905.
Six children were born to Mr. and Mrs. Drapes, five of whom survive. They are Mrs. L. M. Sarb, 1103 Church street, Alex Drapes of Clintonville, Mrs. Irv Lutz, 1105 Church street, Edward Drapes, 715 Union street, and Mrs. Charles Mase, 433 Center street. Other surviving relatives are 21 grandchildren and four great grandchildren. A daughter, Elizabeth Drapes, died April 14, 1916.
Mrs. Drapes was a member of the Rosary society of St. Peter’s Catholic Church.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday morning at 8 o’clock at St. Peter’s church. The body will be placed in the Prais receiving vault and burial will take place later in St. Peter’s cemetery. The body is at the Prais funeral home where the rosary will be said tonight and Tuesday night at 7:30 o’clock.

Funeral of Mrs. Drapes
Funeral services for Mrs. Phyllis Drapes, who died Saturday afternoon at the home of her son and daughter-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Edward Drapes, 715 Union street. Were held this morning at 8 o’clock at St. Peter’s Catholic church. Rev. Julius Chylinski officiated ad the body was placed in a receiving vault at the Prais funeral home. Burial will take place later in St. Peter’s cemetery.
Pallbearers were Frank Literski, Barney Orlikowski, Anton Strosin, Frank Klein, Frank Jurgella and Vincent Jurgella.
Those from out of town who were here for the funeral were Mr. and Mrs. Alex Drapes of Clintonville; Mr. and Mrs. John Dulak and family and Mrs. Bernard Danczyk of Dewy; Mr. and Mrs. Joe Szczesny and family and Mr. and Mrs. Emil Drapes and family of Linwood, Mr. and Mrs. Frank Repinski of Iola; Mr. and Mrs. John Weisbrot of Nelsonville; Mrs. A Weisbrot and family of Stockton and Mrs. Ben Adams of Plover.

     Andrew Drapes was born in October 1844 at Germany. He married Teofila Phyllis Szczesny, daughter of Marcin 'Michael' Szczesny and Dorothea Nowakowska, on 5 November 1885 at Junction City, Portage Co, WI. Andrew Drapes died on 10 November 1905 at Spring Bluff, WI, at age 61.

Andrew Drapes
Andrew Drapes, an old and respected resident of Spring Bluff, died at his farm home on Friday, Nov. 10th, and was buried the following Sunday. He was 65 years of age and was a native of Germany. When a young man he emigrated to this country, locating at Baltimore for a short time, and about 23 years ago came to this city with his wife. She died shortly after their arrival here, and some years later he was married to Miss Teofila Chesney. He was the father of twelve children, six by his first wife and six by the second. They are Mrs. C.H. Howard and Mrs. Oscar Johnson of Medford, Joe Drapes of Minneapolis, Frank Drapes and Mrs. Geo Dayo of this city, John Drapes of Spring Bluff, Mrs. Serb of Friendship and Alex, Verona, Eddie, Lizzie and Sophie of Spring Bluff.
Before leaving his native land Mr. Drapes was enlisted for three years as a soldier in the Franco-Prussian war. He was a man who was greatly esteemed by his friends, of whom he had many in this city where he lived prior to about ten years ago, when he moved to the home where he died. The high regard in which he was held was shown by the large number of friends who accompanied his remains to their last resting place.

     Verona M Drapes was born on 15 November 1891 at Stevens Point, Portage Co, WI. She was the daughter of Andrew Drapes and Teofila Phyllis Szczesny. Verona M Drapes married Irwin W Lutz in 1917 at Stevens Point, Portage Co, WI.

Mrs. Irwin (Verona) Lutz
Mrs. Irwin (Verona) Lutz, 90, 1450 Water St., died Tuesday afternoon at St Michael’s Hospital
Services will be at St Stephen’s Catholic Church at 10 a.m. Friday. The Revs James McNamee and William Moeschler will celebrate. Burial will be in St Joseph’s Cemetery.
Friends may call after 4 p.m. Thursday at the Boston Funeral Home. The American Legion Auxiliary will hold its ritual at 7 p.m. The National Catholic Society of Foresters and the Knights of Columbus Auxiliary will combine with the general rosary at 7:30 p.m. A memorial ahs been established in her name for the Central Wisconsin health Foundation.
Mrs. Lutz was born Nov. 15, 1891, in Stevens Point, a daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Andrew Drapes. She grew up in the area and was married to Irwin W. Lutz in Stevens Point in 1917. The couple lived in Stevens Point since then. Her husband died Jan. 24, 1981.
She was s member of the following: St Stephen’s Catholic Church, St Stephen’s Alter Society; St Cecelia’s Court 815, National Catholic Society of Foresters; Auxiliary to the Knights of Columbus Council 1170; and Auxiliary to Berns-Scribner Post 6, American Legion, of which she was s Silver Belle; and Auxiliary to Portage County Barracks 1782, Veterans of World War I
Survivors include three daughters, Mrs. Raymond (Norma) Fliehr, 2308 Center St., Mrs. Robert (Leone) Engles, 2017 Oak St., and Mrs. Edwin (Jeanette ) Karlan, 1040 Ridge Road; one sister, Mrs. Sophie Mase, 1450 Water St; eight grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by two brothers and two sisters.

Verona M Drapes died on 6 July 1982 at Stevens Point, Portage Co, WI, at age 90.

Sophie Drapes

     Sophie Drapes was born on 23 September 1897 at Coloma, Waushara Co, WI. She was the daughter of Andrew Drapes and Teofila Phyllis Szczesny. Sophie Drapes married Charles Mase on 27 May 1918 at Stevens Point, Portage Co, WI. Sophie Drapes died on 19 April 1990 at Wausau, Marathon Co, WI, at age 92.

Sophia D Mase, 92, 1450 Water St died Thursday evening at Colonial Manor, Wausau.

Services will be 11 a.m. Tuesday at St. Josephs Catholic Church. The Rev. Lyle Schulte will officiate. Burial will be in the McDill Cemetery

Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Monday. The general rosary will combine with St. Anne’s Alter Rosary Society at 7:30 p.m.

Mrs. Mae was born Sept. 23, 1897 in Coloma, to the late Andrew and Phyllis Drapes. She was married to Charles Mase on May 27, 1918, in Stevens Point. He died May 31, 1977

She was a member of St Joseph Catholic Church, the St Anne Alter Rosary Society, Beren-Scribner American Legion Post 6 Auxiliary and the Barbara Rebekah Lodge No 9

Survivors include two sons, Charles (Anita), Phelps, and John (Janet), Wausau; one daughter Betty Johnson, Wausau; six grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren

She was preceded in death by two brothers and three sisters.

Miss Elizabeth Drapes
Young Resident of Fourth Ward Dies as the Result of a Lung Ailment

Miss Elizabeth Drapes passed away at the family home, 311 Smith Place, at 10 o’clock Friday morning, death being caused by hemorrhage of the lungs. The deceased, who was in the twentieth year of her age, had been in poor heath for several months, but her case was not thought serious until a few weeks before her death.
Elizabeth Drapes was born in this city May 31, 1896. Prior to her illness she was employed in the Frost fishing tackle factory. She is survived by her mother, two brothers and three sisters, Alexander, Rib Lake; Mrs. L.M. Sarb, Plainville, Minn; Edward, Verona and Sophie, at home.
Funeral services were held from the home and St Peter’s Catholic church Monday morning, Father S.A. Elbert officiating. Interment followed in the parish cemetery.
The pallbearers were: Vincent Jurgella, Ray Welch, Robert Kostka, Paul Mioskowski, Frank Woznicki, and Alex Sharfranski. Those who atteneded from outside the city were Mr. and Mrs. Alex Drapes, Medford; Mrs. Martha Johnson, Medford, and Mrs. L.M. Sarb, Plainville, Minn.

     Alex Drabes married Beatrice Steffeck. Alex Drabes was born in January 1887. He was the son of Andrew Drapes and Teofila Phyllis Szczesny.

     Edward Drapes was born on 5 May 1892. He was the son of Andrew Drapes and Teofila Phyllis Szczesny. Edward Drapes married Mary Weisbrot on 19 November 1917 at St. Peter's Catholic Church, Stevens Point, Portage Co, WI. Edward Drapes died on 3 March 1971 at Stevens Point, Portage Co, WI, at age 78.

Edward Drapes
Edward Drapes, 78, 501 Union St., died at 11:45 p.m. Wednesday at St Michael’s Hospital. He had been ill for a number of years, but was admitted to the hospital only a few hours before his death.
Funeral services are scheduled for 10 a.m. Saturday at St Peters Catholic Church. The Rev Chester Zielinski will officiate. Burial will be held in the Guardian Angel Cemetery .
Friends may all after 2 p.m. Friday at the Dzikowski Funeral home. Mr. Drapes was a member of the Holy Name Society of St Peters Church and was a third degree member of the Knights of Columbus and these two organizations will combine a rosary at 7 p.m. A general rosary will be recited at 7:30.
Mr. Drapes was born May 5, 1892 in Stevens Point a son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Andrew Drapes. He worked as an electrician and was employed at Consolidated Papers Inc Stevens Pont Division, for 43 years. He retired in 1957.
He married Mary Waisbrot on Nov. 19, 1917, at St Peter’s Church and she is among survivors.
Other survivors include three sons, Raymond, Milwaukee, Emi, 1548 Marisa Dr and Stanley El Paso, Tex; five daughters, Marie at home, Mrs. Thomas (Theresa) Raabe, Wisconsin Rapids, Mrs. Richard (Roseann) Schneeberg, 1336 Brigs St, Mrs. Donald (Carol) Pieczynski, 1017 Maria Dr and Mrs. Joan Zabrowski, 2732 Jefferson St, 26 grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; two sisters, Mrs. Erv (Verona) Lutz 2600 Church St., and Mrs. Charles (Sophie) Mase, 2149 Center St and one brother, Frank Portage County Rest Home.
Mr. Drapes was preceded in death by one son, two brothers and four sisters.
