Chester A. Worzella Sr., 79, Wausau, a Stevens Point native, died Sunday, Feb. 4, 2001, at Community Health Care at Wausau Hospital.
A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Thursday at St. Michael Catholic Church in Wausau, with the Very Rev. William Grevatch. Burial will be in Gate of Heaven Cemetery in Wausau, where a graveside military service will be conducted by members of V.F.W. Post No. 388 and American Legion Post No. 10.
Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Brainard Funeral Home in Wausau and again from 10 a.m. Thursday at the church until the services. A parish rosary service will be held at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.
Memorials may be sent in his memory to St. Michael Catholic Church, 1315 Sixth St., Wausau, WI 54403.
Mr. Worzella was born Nov. 19, 1921, in Stevens Point, a son of the late Jacob and Helen (Tryzinski) Worzella.
He served in the 101st Division of the Army Air Corps during World War II.
He was married to Marie Falkavage on March 6, 1942, in Norfolk, Va.
He was employed as a Wausau firefighter for four years, then started the Family Home Bakery in Wausau. He retired from Purpose Extruded Aluminum as extrusion tank foreman.
He was a member of the VFW Burns Post No. 388, American Legion Montgomery Plant Post No. 10 and DAV Graveen Chapter No. 64.
For 14 years, he was in charge of the fish fries at St. Mary Catholic Church in Wausau.
Survivors include his wife, Marie; six daughters, Barbara (Dan) Casper, Clintonville, Mary (Jack) Duffy and Jane Rasque, both of Wausau, Anita (Dennis) Wessel, Merrill, Denise Hodgkins, Mosinee, and Norma (Steve) Aronson, Kingsford, Mich; four sons, Gerald (Bonny), Gautier, Miss., Chester Jr. "Junior" (Jan), Weston, and Mike (Bette), Marathon; one brother, Robert (Sally), Stevens Point; three sisters, Irene Skibba, Stevens Point, Phyllis (Tony) Wachoviak and Helen (Barney) Cekosh, both of Milwaukee; 21 grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.
He was also preceded in death by two brothers, Richard and Tony; and one great-granddaughter.
