Here we are, at the old stand of MERRILL & SLOTHOWER, with the largest lot of goods ever offered on the Wisconsin River direct from New York which we offer at such reduced prices as to defy competition, consisting of dry goods, groceries, boots & shoes, ready made clothing and clocks, ladies goods, hats & caps, looking glasses, hardware, glass sash, putty & nails, oils, paints, drugs & medicines, dye stuffs, provisions and all other goods usually kept in a country store. BUCK & CHENEY.
The Fourth was celebrated at Stevens Point, by the Ladies, the bolder sex having failed in their patriotism, to make suitable preparations. Below will be found the order of proceedings, as conducted for the day, it was every way creditable to the place; as a picnic, it reflects the highest credit on those fair hands and warm hearts that got it up.
The day was auspicious, the orator was eloquent, the Ladies wore their most radiant roses and smiles, and the gentlemen, as in duty bound, (they could do that at least,) did honor to the viands, cakes &c. They will remember for many days the patriotism and '76 like spirit of the fair of Stevens Point.
Order of Ceremonies:
1st Meeting called to order, by The President, Mr. Wm. WESTON
2d Singing by the Choir
3d Prayer by Mr. SHEPARD

The meeting then adjourned to dinner, after which followed the READING OF TOASTS by Mr. CHANDLER:
"The Stars and Stripes of the American Flag - Let us appropriate the stars to our friends, and reserve the stripes for our enimies."
Mr. J.S. BROWN read the following, for which we present our acknowledgements:
"The Editor and Publisher of the first paper printed at Stevens Point - may they continue to receive the patronage and esteem which their noble zeal and untiring perseverance to promote the interests of this section of country, so rich1y merit."
