City of Stevens Point Re-Numbering Directory as of August 1965

TO USERS OF THIS DIRECTORY.......

Members of the Stevens Point Jaycees have spent many, many long hours on the city-wide re-numbering project and the preparation of this Directory. All of the time needed to complete this program has been DONATED without cost to the city by members of the Stevens Point Jaycees. We have tried to do the best job we are capable of doing. We are the first to admit that we are NOT professionals in this field. Please excuse any errors that might appear on these pages.

In using this Directory, a few facts should be pointed out:

1. All of the new numbers were assigned after a house-to-house canvas listing of present numbers.
2. Numbers in the downtown area were advanced in increments of approximately four digits and in the residential area in increments of approximately eight digits per lot. Thus, numbers on one side of a residential block will follow approximately (by last digit) 00; 08; 16; 24; 32, etc. and on the other side of the block 01; 09; 17; 25; 33, etc.
3. All names listed were taken from the 1964 edition of the City Directory published by the R. L. Polk Company. There is no way that these names can be verified for accuracy.
4. ALL NEW NUMBERS with EVEN last digit are located on the NORTH or WEST side of the street and all numbers with an ODD last digit are located on the SOUTH or EAST side of the street.
5. This program will be put into effect as of August 1, 1965, so you should be guided as to the using of these addresses as of that date.

We sincerely hope that after the first few trying months of getting adjusted to the new system have passed you will be aware of the many advantages of this system of numbering of buildings in our city. It was something that should have been done years ago. We are indeed sorry for any inconvenience the change-over may cause but we sincerely feel that this program is a step towards a bigger and BETTER Stevens Point!!!
